Adding your first site
A “site” in BobRay is one domain with its own dashboard, site ID, and settings. Adding one takes under a minute; this article walks through the fields and the decisions behind them.
- Key takeaways
- A site = one domain, one dashboard, one site ID like br_7fk2mq.
- Subdomains are tracked together by default; split them only if you need separate quotas.
- Pick the reporting time zone where your team works, daily rollups use it.
Add the site
- Open
Sites → Add sitein your dashboard. - Enter the domain exactly as visitors reach it, for example
www.example.comorexample.com. Subdomains such asblog.example.comcan be tracked by the same site or given their own, see below. - Pick your reporting time zone. All daily rollups use this zone, so choose where your team actually works.
- Click Create. Your site ID, a short string like
br_7fk2mq, appears immediately.
One site or several?
If your blog, docs, and app share one brand and you want one combined view, point them all at the same site ID. If you need separate dashboards, quotas, or public links per property, create separate sites. Starter includes 1 site, Growth up to 10, Scale unlimited.
Domain settings that matter
- Track subdomains: on by default; a visit to
docs.example.comcounts toward the same site. - Exclude your own visits: add your office IP ranges under
Settings → Exclusions. IPs are hashed transiently for the check and never stored. - Localhost filtering: traffic from
localhostand common staging hosts is ignored automatically, see Localhost and staging environments.
After adding
Grab the snippet from Sites → your site → Install and continue with The tracking snippet.
Common pitfalls
The mistakes we see most often on this topic, so you can skip them entirely.
- Creating separate sites for www and apex, they're the same property; one site covers both.
- Choosing UTC out of habit, then puzzling over 'yesterday' being offset from your workday.
- Forgetting to exclude office IPs before launch week inflates your own numbers.
